5 held for rhino hunting
2011-08-12 09:39
Johannesburg - Five men have been arrested for illegal hunting
of rhino near Malelane, Mpumalanga police said on Wednesday.
The police acted on a tip-off about alleged rhino poachers at
one of the private game reserves in Low's Creek, said Lieutenant
Colonel Leonard Hlathi.
"The police went to the game reserve and caught two men as they
were about to jump the fence and sneak into the premises. The
men were armed with a rifle and butcher knives," said Hlathi.
He said the police arrested three other men while they were
waiting for their two accomplices outside the reserve and seized
a firearm from them.
The suspects, aged between 26 and 60, would appear in the
Barberton Magistrate's Court on Friday.
