Cops hunt game farm poachers

Polokwane - Police are searching for poachers who shot and dehorned a pregnant rhino on a private game farm at Zebediela, Limpopo police said on Tuesday.

"I believe the rhino's carcass was found on Sunday afternoon, but judging by the stage of decomposition, it had probably been dead about 10 days," said Lieutenant-Colonel Ronnel Otto.

No arrests had been made and police were still searching for the poachers.

According to the SABC, the rhino was shot several times with an R4 rifle. Another rhino carcass was also reportedly found on the farm.

Last week two rhinos were shot and killed and their horns removed on a farm outside Mokopane.

The public broadcaster said 280 rhinos had been killed so far this year.
