Johannesburg - Four alleged rhino poachers were arrested over
the weekend in two separate incidents, the SA National Defence
Force (SANDF) said on Monday.
Two men were arrested in a joint operation by the SANDF and
police in Belfast Trust, KwaZulu-Natal on Sunday, spokesperson
Lieutenant Colonel Marinda Meyer said.
They were allegedly involved in poaching in and around the
Kruger National Park in May.
On Friday two alleged poachers, in possession of three rhino
horns, were arrested in the Kruger National Park. Soldiers on
foot patrol in the park caught them.
They were also allegedly found in possession of an AK-47 with a
magazine and 23 rounds, a CZ550 hunting rifle with nine rounds,
an axe and a knife. One of the men was shot in the right foot
when he allegedly pointed the AK-47 at the soldiers.
