4 arrested for rhino horn in KZN

Durban - Four people were arrested for allegedly being in possession of rhino horn worth R2.5m on Friday in Heidelburg, KwaZulu-Natal police said.

"The four people were arrested in Heidelburg after the organised crime unit got a tip-off that a rhino had been poached in Hluhluwe Game Reserve in [northern KwaZulu-Natal]," said Colonel Jay Naicker.

Heidelburg is on the N3 between Gauteng province and KwaZulu-Natal.

Naicker said the men’s ages ranged from 36 to 42.

The four men face charges of illegal hunting and possession of rhino horn.

Naicker said the men would appear in court on Monday and it was not yet clear which court they would appear in.
