Third poacher nabbed in Kruger
2010-09-27 10:05
Johannesburg – A third suspect,
allegedly responsible for transportation, has been arrested
following the arrest of two poachers in the Kruger National
Park.
The two alleged poachers will appear in court on Monday, Limpopo
police said.
They were allegedly found in possession of rhino horns and
rifles, Warrant Officer Oubaas Coetzer said.
"Game rangers were patrolling the park when they came across two
men with rifles. The men pointed their guns at police and shots
were fired from both sides," Coetzer said.
"One of the poachers was injured in his shoulder. Two rhino
horns were recovered and we found the carcass."
The poachers were found in the park in the early hours of
Saturday morning.
Two of them were expected to appear in court on Monday.
The injured man was still in hospital.
Police were investigating the possibility that the men were part
of a poaching syndicate.
They might also be responsible for other poaching incidents in
the area, he said.
