WILDLIFE REHABILITATION COURSES 2008
SanWild is proud to bring you the following wildlife
rehabilitation training courses with internationally recognised
wildlife rehabilitator, Karen Trendler. Please book in
advance as participation is limited to 10 people only.

COURSE 1:
Introduction to the principles and ethics of wildlife
rehabilitation
Course Duration: 1 and a half days
Available Course
Dates:
• 25th & 26th August 2008
This course will cover a general introduction to the underlying
principles of wildlife rehabilitation (including the principles
and ethics of euthanasia, rescue, rearing, convalescence and
release). The course will give participants a good all round
basic introduction that can be applied to all species all over
the world.
The course is suitable for conservation and welfare staff,
rehabilitators and volunteers.
Costs:
R1850.00 per person
• Accommodation included for the evening of the 25th March and
26th August, all meals and soft drinks. One game drive.

COURSE 2:
Wildlife response and first aid:
Course duration: 2 Days
Course
Dates:
• 27th & 28th August 2008
This course will be an intensive introduction to rescue and
response, including some capture and handling hints; with
reference to different groups and species; common wildlife
emergencies recognition, symptoms, treatment and handling. Basic
first aid and primary care.
It will be a very practical course for people directly involved
in rehabilitation and response, animal nurses, welfare officers
and conservation field staff. Also suitable for zoo and capture
personnel.

2 950.00 per person
• Accommodation included for the evening of 27th & 28th August, all meals and soft drinks. One
game drive. One Ranger trail.

COURSE 3:
Hand raising wild mammals
Course duration: 2 days
Course
Dates:
• 29th & 30th August 2008
This course will be a comprehensive introduction to the hand
raising of mammals; including neonatal considerations, small
mammals, carnivores, herbivores and rhino and elephant. Rearing
techniques, diets and milk replacement formulations, weaning and
common health problems.
Costs: R2
950 per person
• Accommodation included for the evening of the 29th & 30th August, all meals and soft drinks. One
game drive. One Ranger trail.

COURSE 4:
An introduction to oil spill response ....washing oily birds.
Course duration: 1 day quick-course
Course
Dates:
• 31st August 2008
Washing oiled birds requires a specialized knowledge of water
birds , their husbandry and waterproofing.
Course is suitable for all conservation, animal welfare, zoo and
rehabilitation staff and volunteers.
Costs: R
1650.00 per person
• Accommodation included for the evening of the 31st March and
31st August, all meals and soft drinks. One game drive.
• Only 10 Participants per course.
• Booking deposits of 50%, balance 4 weeks prior to course
commencement. Deposit not refundable.
COURSE 5:
Bird Rehabilitation and hand raising
Rescue, rearing, nursing and rehab techniques.
Course duration: 3 days
Participants can choose to do all three or just select which
type of birds they would like to learn more about.

• 5 June 2008 Raptors
• 6 June 2008 Water Birds
Costs:
R1650.00 per person per course.
If you do all 3 courses a 10% discount will apply on the
total price.
• Accommodation included for the evening of the 4th, 5th or 6th
June or all three nights depending if you choose to do one or
all 3 course segments on bird rehabilitation.
• Only 10 Participants per course.
