Looking forward to Fridays

I am and will be always looking toward Friday, Why, because it is the day we feed lions at SanWild. As I had written earlier, there is a different drama unfolding when lions feed in wild. Very hierarchical feeding behavior. Male will be eating first followed by lionesses and cubs. Many people may think that male lions are good for nothing creatures. When they do not hunt how they get to eat first. I am going to put more positive thought or a logical one to this behavior. Usually when any predator hunts and especially Cheetahs and female lions, enormous amount of energy is consumed, Cheetah’s running at 70 mph will be completely overheated within 30 seconds in chase and they will give up after that. But when hunt is successful cheetah’s will let cubs feed first and then they will eat in a hurried fashion because lot of times they loose kill to others, even to a single Hyena. I would be safe in assuming that lionesses may be spending lot of energy during the hunt and they may need few mins before they can start eating. So males may be taking to opportunity to feed first. ALL PREDATORS ARE VERY OPPORTUNISTIC.

I wish I was a lion or lioness to explain this behavior. Anyway.

Learning a lot about poaching

I had a long bushwalk with Albert the expert today. I learned lot of things about poaching and it is disgusting to know how poaching is done and why. Majority of poaching is done either for food OR money. There can be no other logical reason behind this. I am completely anti poaching and anti hunting and to me it is cold blooded murder. But here in Africa many people don’t have the income level that we have in many flourished countries. For many people in Africa, the livelihood depends on what we have today and considering many people don’t have jobs they earn by either selling meat or animals for trophies. To an extended I can understand someone stealing & killing a warthog for food. But there are poachers who will work in the morning and poach during the night times and they are mainly poaching for …………………………… all those lavish spenders from the world for TROPHY HUNTING.

I am reiterating here; there are some sick and disgusting human minds on earth who don’t know what to do with large amount of wealth they have. Instead of spending and helping the people to generate employment, they will in an away entice people to hunt for skins and trophies in living rooms. They are blood thirsty and when you reach that stage, good & logical thinking is flushed down the tube.

I came from bushwalk around 10.00 AM and spend sometime in checking the emails. After that I played with Meerkat mother and on my way back to Chalet for lunch, played with Bliksem. Today Bliksem licked my hand and let me scratch his under side of the throat and also the area just above his ears.
