Bliksem slow to leave
Since last week I have started getting up pretty early between 4.30 AM & 5.30 AM. After breakfast we drove to office for daily feeding schedule. We fed Bliksem in his enclosure but this time we put the grass and pellets very close to the door and kept it open thinking he will move out after his eating. For almost an hour or two he stayed within the enclosure reluctant to go out in the open. Around afternoon, Andre told me Bliksem was out of his enclosure standing under a tree in shade. Yes it was very hot yesterday but it is not burning your skin as it does in CA. I am used to hot climate in CA and sun rays are very strong in there with high percentage of UV. However here in South Africa I have not felt any side effects of heat. My guess is with so many trees in SanWild, kind off dampens the bad effect of direct sun rays. Many animals prefer to rest in shade rather than coming out in open. Late afternoon Andre and I got some beers and started tracking the elephants but again they seem to disappear in thick jungle even though we were getting a good signal on tracking device. Around 5.30 after an hour of drive or so we still could not get a glimpse of elephants hence decided to return to the camp. |
